Abstract of the lecture

Intense dynamic processes of plastic deformation brightly manifest a coupling of dynamical and kinetic factors acting during the defect structure evolution. We consider plasticity a solely kinetic process governing the mechanical behaviour of crystalline solids. To show this, we replace the actual defect subsystem embedded in the continuous metric space with the discrete cell complex (DCC) associated with the network of micro-shears and investigate explicitly a specific space ordering appearing and developing during the deformation process. This allows us to overcome the usual challenges of statistical thermodynamics applied to solids’ plasticity problems and propose a novel discrete approach for characterisation of the defect structure evolution on the mesoscale level - in between the molecular dynamics and macrolevel continuous models.
